  Resolved Question: How many conductors
I was just watching/listening to the following You Tube video of Thielemann conducting the Munich Philharmonic in Wagner's "Tannhauser" Overture (the Dresden version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTM7E4-DN0o Why this question came to mind as a result, I haven't the foggiest idea; anyways....... What conductors can you name who regularly, are known to: (1) conduct using a baton? (2) conduct without a baton? (3) conduct with/using a score to refer to? (4) conduct without a score? LIVING OR DECEASED Many Thanks, Alberich @@@ "petr b": many thanks for your attention to my last two questions; neither will probably receive any more - really 'irks' me. The info. about Boulez is of particular interest to me - anyone that can conduct the entire Ring without a score, well.......my hats off to him. Two that came to mind for me were A. Toscanini (naturally, I'm a great fan of his), who used a baton, but never a score; and the sometimes controversial L. Stokowski for his orchestral arrangements of compositions from other mediums - a score, but no baton. And lastly, guess you are more than probably aware of V Gergiev, with his 'toothpick' baton?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHk1RmPzA5E HA !!!
