Resolved Question: Joe Montana Best Ever?
Why is joe montana considered the best qb ever? Yes I realize that he won 4 superbowls, was mvp of those superbowls 3 times, led comebacks, played big in big games, etc. But I dont understand how just that contributes to being the GOAT. Was it the way he played? One thing i noticed is that he had a high completion percentage. Is this what makes him the GOAT? I dont consider being a winner as enough to be the best so it must have been how he played the game. I never saw him play so I wouldnt know but his stats are nothing to boast about when you compare him to other qbs. And im not even a stat guy but when you have the numbers of an average guy what is it that was so amazing. He not once got over 4000 and he never threw for over 40 tds. Football is a team game and he had a lot of dudes contributing on those 49ers teams (ronnie lott, jerry rice, roger craig, etc.) who are all legendary themselves. When I compare him to other qbs he cant measure up. Its not like he had a breakout season either. Dan marino beats him in yards, John elway in comebacks, Terry bradshaw ties him in super bowl wins, Peyton manning wins qb rating, and brett farve wins in any career qb stats so can anyone tell me, why is joe montana considered so great?
